STAR WARS: THE LAST JEDI will finally see the light of day on December 25, 2018.
In addition to the upcoming film, Disney is also releasing the animated series Star Wars: The Last Jedi on VOD and Blu-ray this coming December 24.
Star Wars fans have been eagerly anticipating this film since it first debuted on Disney XD last September.
In an exclusive interview with Entertainment Weekly, the first Star Wars film’s original director, JJ Abrams, revealed his thoughts on the film and what fans can expect to see in its sequel.
Abrams talked about his own vision for the film, saying, “I think that we’re seeing the end of what was a very successful and very interesting saga, which was a lot of fun, and it was a story that was very much about the importance of friendship and sacrifice, and how to make a family of your own.”
Abrams said that he’s excited for fans to see what’s in store for his next film, which he described as “very much about family.”
“The characters are going to be all of these very, very different characters.
We’re really exploring the possibilities of this new generation of people, people who are not necessarily genetically the same as our characters, who have a different outlook on life and who want to explore the possibilities in the world and the human experience.
And I think that they’re going to all have very different perspectives on things.”
In addition, Abrams teased the film’s “secret” title of The Last Emperor, the title of a quote he used when he first began working on the project.
“The title of this movie is The Last Imperial,” he said.
“And it will be something that’s not only about a young Emperor but a very, truly terrible one.”
Abrams has also said that fans can be forgiven for expecting to see Darth Vader and Darth Maul from the film.
“In some ways, we’ve all seen that,” he told EW.
“Darth Vader has been a constant in the films that have followed him, and I think it’s a shame that we haven’t seen him in a while, because that’s what fans have wanted to see.”
