Apple has opened a book store in the Philippines and plans to open one in India in the near future.
The company announced Thursday that it will open its first book store, the Apple Bookstore, in Pampanga City in the southern Philippines.
Apple is expected to open a second book store later this year in a similar location in Pahang, according to an Apple statement.
“We are thrilled to welcome our first Apple Book Store in the beautiful city of Pampang City,” Apple said in a statement.
The Philippines has a vibrant book scene, with more than 50 bookstores and more than 150,000 books available for sale, according the book retailer and online retailer Amazon.com.

The Apple Bookstores were the first in the country to open and sell new books.
Pampang is the capital of the country, and is about a 30-minute drive from Pampango International Airport.
The Philippine Bookstore is expected have 300 books, and they will sell more than 1,000 per month, said the local bookseller, who declined to be named.
The Apple BookStore is the latest in a string of book stores opening in Asia.
Last year, a similar store opened in Singapore and now has about 700 books available in bookstores.
In addition to books, the new Apple Bookshop will be stocked with music, apparel and electronics.
Apple, which has a presence in more than 100 countries, is the world leader in digital content.
In 2014, the company launched a new iPad and a new iPhone, respectively, to compete with Amazon’s Kindle e-reader.
But it faces competition from Google, Apple’s rival, which is opening its own bookstores this year.
The Google Play store, which was launched in April, is available in more countries than Apple’s, and the Apple Store is set to open in other countries this year, said Michael Egan, executive director of digital and print at the Association of Booksellers and Publishers.
“The competition from Apple is really fierce, but it’s not overwhelming,” he said.
